The powerfull AMD Phenom II Processors review

So why purchase an AMD processor? AMD processors have a reputation for high performance, durability, and great bang-for-your-buck value. With the Phenom II 1090T or 1100T, for example, you get 6 cores of blazing performance for under $200. With an Intel CPU you could expect to spend no less than 3 times that amount for a similar amount of cores. AMD Turbo Core technology on this CPU also allows you to switch from (using the 1100T as an example) 6 cores to 3 turbo cores which boost performance when you simply need raw speed over multi-core performance.

Additional AMD Terms to know:

POWERNOW! 3.0 TECHNOLOGY – provides “dramatic power management improvements, automatically, with no noticeable performance impact. AMD PowerNow! 3.0 technology includes efficient 45nm multi-core design, improved power management and additional performance states. With this technology and low power usage at idle, AMD Phenom II processors delivers performance when you need it and saves power when you don’t.” (Source: AMD)

Direct Connect Architecture – This technology reduces the bottlenecks often associated with front side bus based designs by using dedicated high-speed links.

True Multi-Core Processing – designed to use multiple cores with the same CPU to optimize mult-tasking on multi-threaded applications.

HyperTransport 3.0 Technology – increases I/O bandwitdh by delivering system agility for better 3D graphics with DirextX 10. This in tern gives better speed to hard drives, USB devices, and other I/O devices.

Total Cache and Enhanced Total Cache – This techhnology gives each core its own L2 cache memory which allows it to share data among cores using the L3 cache.

AMD Wide Floating Point Accelerator – Increases performance of HD players and 3D games.

AMD Digital Media XPress 2.0 Technology – Gives better detail for 3D graphics.
